How to Live Holistically While on Vacation (Without Feeling Deprived)

Non-Toxic Living

Vacation is a time to relax, explore, enjoy yourself and take a pause from your every day life, but it doesn’t mean you have to throw your holistic lifestyle out the window. With a little intention, you can maintain balance, nourish your body, and still indulge in the experience without guilt. Here’s how to stay aligned with your wellness goals while fully embracing your time away.

1. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate

Traveling, especially by plane, can be incredibly dehydrating. Make it a priority to plenty of fresh, clean, water throughout your trip. Bring a reusable stainless steel water bottle, preferably one with a filter, and sip regularly. Adding electrolytes or a pinch of sea salt to your water can help replenish minerals and keep you feeling energized. Coconut water is also a great natural option for hydration!

2. Prioritize Whole Foods

It’s easy to get caught up in convenience foods while traveling, but fueling your body with whole, nutrient-dense foods will keep you feeling your best. Seek out local markets, farm-to-table restaurants, or grocery stores where you can grab fresh fruits, veggies, nuts, and clean protein sources. If you’re eating out, opt for grilled over fried, fresh over processed, and balance indulgences with nutrient-rich meals. If you are hitting the buffet, fill your first plate with whole foods, filling yourself up on nutrient rich foods that will help heal your body, leaving very little space for less healthy options.

3. Move Your Body Daily

Exploring a new place often means plenty of walking, but be intentional about keeping your body active. Stretch in the morning, do some beach yoga, do some Aqua-cise or other fun resort activities. Take advantage of nature and go for a beach walk, a hike, or a swim. Movement will help with circulation, digestion, and keeping your energy levels up. Ensure you are creating a healthy balance of peace, relaxation and physical activity.

4. Bring Detox and Immune Support Supplements

Travel exposes you to new environments, foods, and germs, so supporting your bodies natural detox and immune systems is key. Consider bringing:

  •  Probiotics to keep your gut healthy
  • Activated charcoal for occasional digestive upset or toxin exposure (it also makes for an unbelievable teeth whitener)
  • Vitamin C and zinc to support immunity
  • Chlorophyll to help with gentle detox
  • Zeolite to bind to heavy metals and toxins, helping your body detox effectively
  • Magnesium to combat travel constipation and support relaxation

5. Use Natural, Mineral Based Sunscreen

Sunscreen is essential for protecting your skin, but many conventional sunscreens contain harmful chemicals like oxybenzone, which can disrupt hormones and harm marine life. Opt for a natural, mineral-based sunscreen instead. These provide broad-spectrum protection without toxic ingredients. Look for brands that use clean, nourishing ingredients like coconut oil, shea butter, and essential oils to keep your skin healthy and hydrated while in the sun.

6. Limit Alcohol but Still Enjoy Yourself

Alcohol is often a part of vacation, and while you don’t have to avoid it completely, being mindful can make a big difference. Stick to cleaner options like organic wine, clear liquors with fresh citrus, or kombucha-based cocktails. Hydrate between drinks, and support your liver with foods rich in antioxidants (like berries and leafy greens) or supplements like milk thistle.

7. Maintain Balance: Indulge Without Guilt

Holistic living isn’t about perfection, it’s about balance. Enjoy the local foods, savor the dessert, and have that glass of wine if it brings you joy. Just make sure you are hydrating and nourishing your body as well. The key is to be mindful and listen to your body. If you have a rich meal, balance it with a lighter one later. If you indulge one day, focus on extra hydration and movement the next.

8. Stay Present and Nourish Your Mind

Wellness isn’t just about what you eat, it is also about your mindset. Make it a point to slow down, take deep breaths, and be fully present in each moment. Limit screen time, immerse yourself in the culture, and engage with your surroundings. Journaling, meditating, hiking or simply appreciating a beautiful view can be just as nourishing as the food you eat.

9. Rest and Rejuvenate

Traveling can be exciting, but it can also be exhausting. Prioritize rest by maintaining a healthy sleep routine as much as possible. Bring an eye mask, earplugs, or essential oils like lavender to help you unwind. Give yourself permission to relax without overloading your schedule.

Living holistically on vacation isn’t about restriction, it’s about making intentional choices that allow you to feel your best while still enjoying the experience. With a little planning, you can maintain your healthy habits, indulge mindfully, and return home feeling refreshed rather than depleted.

I am a first time boy mom, wife, self-published author and wellness connoisseur, trying to live a holistic lifestyle in the very small town of Moonstone, Ontario. I started this blog to share my passion (obsession) for natural, non-toxic living. Throughout this blog you will find inspiration to live your healthiest life, tips to switch to a natural, toxic-free lifestyle, honest and transparent motherhood, birth, breastfeeding, essential oils, help with getting started with Baby Led weaning and all other things “crunchy”. From teaching yoga, to making my own products and sourdough, to trying out veganism, buying an absurd amount of crystals, and trying many alternative medicines, I have dipped my toe in many aspects of the wellness world. I have also completed many courses in Herbalism, meditation, different types of yoga and Ayurveda.

Currently, I am studying to receive my Holistic Nutritionist (specializing in children’s nutrition) diploma. After giving birth to my son, I realized just how important living a natural, healthy lifestyle was. Feeding my son healthy, homemade organic foods is one of my favourite things to do. We began baby led weaning when he was six months old and our food journey has been nothing short of wonderful. This kid will eat practically everything I offer him (except broccoli). My goal is to share our journey and offer some support to new mamas and to assist with making their babies transition to food go smoothly. I also want to help mamas take care of themselves by supporting them with holistic nutrition consulting and meal planning. Mama’s health is just as important as babies, we must set a good example for our children by being the absolute best version of ourselves, they are always watching!

I look forward to meeting you and helping you start your holistic journey.

Hey, I'm Jamie, The founder behind Moonstone Mommy!

Nice to meet you!
